About Alice

Alice writes and performs all her own songs known for her use of a 12 string guitar.  While she learnt to play at school, it has been in the last 4 years that she took her music to a wider audience.

Alice has spent many years honing her craft as a writer and performer, with several self-recorded albums to her credit. Using her skills of empathy and intuition, Alice never shies away from exploring unchartered territory in the field of song writing.

I am releasing a new EP called Traveller Stories Retold, songs retold  on the 19th September 2022, available from my BandCamp page

Released on the 1st June 2020 was my album being produced by Martin Stephenson, of Martin Stephenson and the Daintees fame, called At Ease.

A Review of At Ease by Alan Walker
When I heard along the grapevine that Alice Brown was in the recording studio with Martin Stephenson, I was truly excited and looked forward to hearing the results. A few months later, and having now heard the album all the way through, my earlier excitement feels rewarded. I am delighted that it really is a showcase album that displays so many of Alice’s styles and considerable talents.

Alice is an exceptional storyteller, and this very varied mix allows her to explore many different themes. Her words, sometimes challenging, express moments of love, frustration and reflection, and leave the listener feeling that they have been there before, and experienced those very same emotions. As you leave the room, the album leaves you feeling provoked over many of the subjects just visited. That’s a rare ability in a songwriter.
“Going Home” sums up feelings of being stuck at airports, followed by the blissful feeling that overwhelms you once you finally arrive home. “Dreams” takes you to a totally higher place, lifts you up and reaches out. While the harmonies on “Only the Story” raise the song to yet another plane.

As a writer and performer Alice is very unique. Despite listing Neil Young and Bert Jansch among her early influences, they are only briefly apparent in odd moments of some songs. But on “Star in the Sky” and “Sitting Here Quietly”, it’s the maybe unrealised influence of Syd Barrett that comes through, their lyrics being equal parts deep and yet simplistic in their style, and her vocal delivery of them actually exquisite. For me “Star in the Sky” is the stand out track on the album.

Credit should be given to Martin Stephenson for his empathetic production skills, and to the exceptional vocal harmonies provided by Susanna Wolfe. But it’s the songwriter herself and her vocal delivery that is the true star of this excellent collection of songs.
